| Comments: | Bob, thanks for all your work. Have you done any research on ALEC in Nevada? We are trying to find links between Nevada Policy Research Institute (NPRI) and ALEC. We do know they have received funds from Cato and Las Vegas Sands (Sheldon Adelson). I'd appreciate any information you might have. I was an employee of the Nevada Department of Corrections from 2000 to 2007--most as a case worker. Prisons really are a racket. Inmates couldn't attend drug treatment, I suspect because they were too valuable as workers. Nevada State Senator Bill Raggio (a proponent of ALEC) stopped downsizing legislation in 2009 (SB 398). I suspect that he was the one backing fought the privatization of the women's prison in Southern Nevada and Summit View Youth facility. The women's prisons had rapes and there was maltreatment at Summit View (ending in a standoff on the roof). Both facilities and the medical unit at Ely State Prison were returned to the state. | Comments: | My daughter, Correctional Officer was murdered on June 25, 2008 at Tomoka Correctional Institution, DAytona Beach, Florida by an inmate of Tomoka, serving two life sentences plus a forty-four Federal sentence. A violent man that was convicted of kidnapping and rape, last conviction of brutal attack on an elederly woman he left for dead from his brutal, vicious attack. He was selected by Pride to be in thier work program(a close custody inmate.It was the culpable negilence of both D.O.C. and PRIDE that gave this vicious inmate the oppurtunity AND TIME to brutaly murder my daughter. |

Not only will the reform you support assist inmates to gain useful skills so they can find and maintain employment upon their release from prison, thereby reducing recitivism, but these reforms will also protect private businesses from being driven out of business by unfair, unethical, and possibly even the illegal practices being misused by the prisons today. |
